Article 11 - 03 July 2007

Huge shoals of grunter are both at the mouth of Swartkops and moving into the river. The shoals at the mouth have been visible on the surface and the surf fishermen have been catching some nice fish. Skulpies has been the best in the river with some really good catches coming out, all caught on Pilchards. A monster of 7.2kg was caught on Friday and we expect more of these big fish to come out in the following weeks.

The Leerie and Cob catches in the Swartkops were good during this last week, mostly caught on dropshot. As we said in the last report we thought it was going to be a good Cob season and the season started this last weekend with some fantastic fish being caught at the Gamtoos and Sundays mouth - mostly on Abu Lucas spoons. My brother and Anthony had some fantastic Leerie fishing and also landed some nice Cob. Lando lost a fish of a lifetime on light line and a small leadhead jig. The fish was estimated to be in the 15kg region and hopefully we'll catch him on the next spring tide.

The rock and surf fishing was excellent with many Elf coming out, good catches of Cob and some nice Cracker. The Geelbek have been coming out nicely and a huge fish of 15kg was landed at the southwest grounds. The point has also been fishing well for these fish and the odd Yellowtail has been landed too. The weather is predicted to be very nice for the holiday-goers for the next week and this bodes well for the fishermen.
