Fishing this last week was a little bit quiet in the Swartkops river with a couple of Leeries and Cob coming out on dropshot. The live bait fishermen were nailing them. Unfortunately for the dropshot fishermen they were fishing in the best spots for neap tides and we could not get in close enough to cast to the most productive areas.
The Geelbek fishing off the south west grounds has been really good with huge catches being reported by the commercials and the recreational angler. The Geelbek catches off of suicide have also been good when the conditions are right. The weather was beautiful for deep sea fishing and small rubber ducks caught a lot of Bonito.
Fishing from the rocks, the Elf fishing as usual was good from Beachview right around the Marine Drive. With the cracker season starting and the bigger fish starting to move into our shores good catches were reported in the Beachview area.
The fish will move into the Cape Recife area soon and large catches are expected in the near future when conditions are right.
We think the Cob season is going to excellent this year with all the Mullet congregating at the Sundays and Gamtoos river mouths. This weekend some beautiful Cob were caught at the Sundays river mouth on Havoc lures.
With spring tides coming up one can expect good catches of small Leeries in the Skulpies area and we feel that the Cob trolling, which will start in ernest this spring tide, large catches of Cob are expected.
