ADDO ADVENTURE.COM MOUNTAIN TRAVERSE
A mountain bike challenge which sees competitors riding from Alicedale to Addo over the Zuurberg Mountain on the 14th July 2007

The race starts in the main street of Alicedale adjacent to the Bushman Sands Hotel at 07h00 when riders will set off on one of the most scenic rides available in the Eastern Cape.

The route sees riders following a gravel road through the picturesque Burchell’s Game Reserve and passing through Swartwaterspoort on their way to the R400. The riders pass a check point at Oom Theuns se Winkel as the make use of the flattish terrain heading to Bracefield. The left turn onto the R335 which sees the route take them over Annes Villa. From here the route ascends over Boontjiesrivier and Woodyfield to the top of the spectacular Zuurberg Mountain. The route drops suddenly into the Zuurberg Pass affording riders a view over Addo Elephant National Park towards the Indian Ocean.

The riders arrive at the bottom of the
pass as the route takes a right turn
through the gates of the stunning River
Bend Lodge, where competitors have the
opportunity of riding through a well stocked
game reserve with a good chance of seeing
giraffe, buffalo, zebra, plenty of antelope
and rhino. Whilst a scenic section of the
race, the dirt tracks will see the riders out
of their seats and pushing towards
some of the finest citrus farms in
the region.

This race is the ideal event to involve the
whole family, with plenty for them to see and
do. The awards ceremony will be held in a
marquee tent at the finish line, with plenty of
prizes and fun for all. The after party is
guaranteed to round off a memorable day; the
live music will provide the perfect platform
to dance off any lactic acid with fellow
competitors, families and locals.
